Commander Keen 4, 5 and 6 Mashup
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a version of Commander Keen that incorporated all the features, monsters, and locations of “Goodbye Galaxy” and “Aliens Ate My Babysitter?”
I thought that would be rad, so I made it.
About the Original Game
Commander Keen was a game from the 90’s created by ID Software, the same company that built classics such as Doom and Quake.
My favourite game of the series was Keen 5: The Armageddon Machine. I loved it so much that my mother made me a library bag using the design of the title screen.
About the Project
The game was programmed from scratch in Godot 3, and the assets were obtained from various sources from the internet. It was built over the course of 6-8 months in 2021-2022.
The game has around 15 levels, 2 overworlds, and almost every single enemy from Keen 4, 5 and 6.
The feel of the game is very faithful to the originals all the way up to Keen’s jump height, super pogo jumps, the UI, enemy animations and behaviour, and the iconic death jingle.
Additional Features
My version includes extra features not found in the original games:
- Time trial mode
- A secret level accessed by collecting hidden items
- “Extra hard” difficulty that alters the behaviour of the original enemies
I don’t own the rights to the IP, so I can’t publish this game, but making this passion project was the catalyst for Olivia of the Occult.

Here’s hoping that Commander Keen gets a quality remake or 3D adventure one day. If a company decides to take it on, give me a buzz and I’ll happily help produce assets or program it!
